The Risk of Being Hacked

As we rely more and more on technology, the risk of being hacked increases. Here are some tips to help avoid being hacked:

  • Wherever possible, set up two factor authentications. If you can, set up biometrics such as facial recognition or thumbprint.
  • Avoid clicking on any links in emails or texts even though it looks like it might be coming from an institution that you trust. These hackers have become very sneaky and you don’t want to trust that it is actually coming from that institution.
  • Take a look at your online presence. Don’t put too much of your private information out on social media. Many people post everything about themselves, and which gives hackers what they need.
  • Monitor your account activity regularly, such as your credit card and your checking account activity. At least once a month, check all your transactions and make sure that they are valid.
  • Avoid responding to any emails with information about yourself. Similarly, you don’t want to send out money as a response to an email request. It’s very easy to pick up the phone and verify that this is the person that’s actually sending the information.

Nothing is a sure bet, but hopefully these tips will help make it harder for hackers to win.
